Damien George f397a3ec31 py/objslice: Validate that the argument to indices() is an integer.
Otherwise passing in a non-integer can lead to an invalid memory access.

Thanks to Junwha Hong and Wonil Jang @S2Lab, UNIST for finding the issue.

Fixes issue #13007.

David Lechner 8491eb190f py/objslice: Ensure slice is not hashable.
As per https://bugs.python.org/issue408326, the slice object should not be
hashable. Since MicroPython has an implicit fallback when the unary_op
slot is empty, we need to fill this slot.

Jim Mussared 94beeabd2e py/obj: Convert make_new into a mp_obj_type_t slot.
Instead of being an explicit field, it's now a slot like all the other
methods.

This is a marginal code size improvement because most types have a make_new
(100/138 on PYBV11), however it improves consistency in how types are
declared, removing the special case for make_new.

Jim Mussared 0e7bfc88c6 all: Use mp_obj_malloc everywhere it's applicable.
This replaces occurences of

    foo_t *foo = m_new_obj(foo_t);
    foo->base.type = &foo_type;

with

    foo_t *foo = mp_obj_malloc(foo_t, &foo_type);

Excludes any places where base is a sub-field or when new0/memset is used.

Damien George 8e048d2548 all: Clean up error strings to use lowercase and change cannot to can't.
Now that error string compression is supported it's more important to have
consistent error string formatting (eg all lowercase English words,
consistent contractions). This commit cleans up some of the strings to
make them more consistent.

Nicko van Someren 4c93955b7b py/objslice: Add support for indices() method on slice objects.
Instances of the slice class are passed to __getitem__() on objects when
the user indexes them with a slice. In practice the majority of the time
(other than passing it on untouched) is to work out what the slice means in
the context of an array dimension of a particular length. Since Python 2.3
there has been a method on the slice class, indices(), that takes a
dimension length and returns the real start, stop and step, accounting for
missing or negative values in the slice spec. This commit implements such
a indices() method on the slice class.

It is configurable at compile-time via MICROPY_PY_BUILTINS_SLICE_INDICES,
disabled by default, enabled on unix, stm32 and esp32 ports.

This commit also adds new tests for slice indices and for slicing unicode
strings.

Damien George eee1e8841a py: Downcase all MP_OBJ_IS_xxx macros to make a more consistent C API.
These macros could in principle be (inline) functions so it makes sense to
have them lower case, to match the other C API functions.

The remaining macros that are upper case are:
- MP_OBJ_TO_PTR, MP_OBJ_FROM_PTR
- MP_OBJ_NEW_SMALL_INT, MP_OBJ_SMALL_INT_VALUE
- MP_OBJ_NEW_QSTR, MP_OBJ_QSTR_VALUE
- MP_OBJ_FUN_MAKE_SIG
- MP_DECLARE_CONST_xxx
- MP_DEFINE_CONST_xxx

These must remain macros because they are used when defining const data (at
least, MP_OBJ_NEW_SMALL_INT is so it makes sense to have
MP_OBJ_SMALL_INT_VALUE also a macro).

For those macros that have been made lower case, compatibility macros are
provided for the old names so that users do not need to change their code
immediately.

Damien George a3dc1b1957 all: Remove inclusion of internal py header files.
Header files that are considered internal to the py core and should not
normally be included directly are:
py/nlr.h - internal nlr configuration and declarations
py/bc0.h - contains bytecode macro definitions
py/runtime0.h - contains basic runtime enums

Instead, the top-level header files to include are one of:
py/obj.h - includes runtime0.h and defines everything to use the
        mp_obj_t type
    py/runtime.h - includes mpstate.h and hence nlr.h, obj.h, runtime0.h,
and defines everything to use the general runtime support functions

Additional, specific headers (eg py/objlist.h) can be included if needed.

Damien George 999cedb90f py: Wrap all obj-ptr conversions in MP_OBJ_TO_PTR/MP_OBJ_FROM_PTR.
This allows the mp_obj_t type to be configured to something other than a
pointer-sized primitive type.

This patch also includes additional changes to allow the code to compile
when sizeof(mp_uint_t) != sizeof(void*), such as using size_t instead of
mp_uint_t, and various casts.

Paul Sokolovsky 7667727021 objsingleton: New home for Ellipsis and NotImplemented.
Having NotImplemented as MP_OBJ_SENTINEL turned out to be problematic
(it needs to be checked for in a lot of places, otherwise it'll crash
as would pass MP_OBJ_IS_OBJ()), so made a proper singleton value like
Ellipsis, both of them sharing the same type.

Damien George 7f9d1d6ab9 py: Overhaul and simplify printf/pfenv mechanism.
Previous to this patch the printing mechanism was a bit of a tangled
mess. This patch attempts to consolidate printing into one interface.

All (non-debug) printing now uses the mp_print* family of functions,
mainly mp_printf. All these functions take an mp_print_t structure as
their first argument, and this structure defines the printing backend
through the "print_strn" function of said structure.

Printing from the uPy core can reach the platform-defined print code via
two paths: either through mp_sys_stdout_obj (defined pert port) in
conjunction with mp_stream_write; or through the mp_plat_print structure
which uses the MP_PLAT_PRINT_STRN macro to define how string are printed
on the platform. The former is only used when MICROPY_PY_IO is defined.

With this new scheme printing is generally more efficient (less layers
to go through, less arguments to pass), and, given an mp_print_t*
structure, one can call mp_print_str for efficiency instead of
mp_printf("%s", ...). Code size is also reduced by around 200 bytes on
Thumb2 archs.

Damien George c5966128c7 Implement proper exception type hierarchy.
Each built-in exception is now a type, with base type BaseException.
C exceptions are created by passing a pointer to the exception type to
make an instance of. When raising an exception from the VM, an
instance is created automatically if an exception type is raised (as
opposed to an exception instance).

Exception matching (RT_BINARY_OP_EXCEPTION_MATCH) is now proper.

Handling of parse error changed to match new exceptions.

mp_const_type renamed to mp_type_type for consistency.

Damien George a71c83a1d1 Change mp_obj_type_t.name from const char * to qstr.
Ultimately all static strings should be qstr. This entry in the type
structure is only used for printing error messages (to tell the type of
the bad argument), and printing objects that don't supply a .print method.
